Research in advertising is done to determine the copy testing of advertisements. It is also used to know the efficiency of ads placed in any medium, the customer attention it gets, the message it delivers and how it motivates the customers to buy the product. Commercial eye tracking is done to understand the visual behavior of the customer. Ads, websites, etc., are analyzed for this. Before an advertisement is released in the market, its performance can be forecasted with the help of copy testing which takes consumer’s level of attention, motivation, brand liking, and entertainment into consideration.

When a customer buys something online he analyses it in order to make the decision, this one of the criteria on which consumer decision research is done. Interviews and surveys can be done to understand consumer’s level of satisfaction, which is known as customer satisfaction studies. The demographic and psychology of the people of a particular geographical region can be studied with the help of segmentation research.

When analyzing is to be done about brand recognition, brand performance, brand preference and awareness, ad tracking is done. A favorite brand can be recognized with the help of brand equity research. Tests are conducted so as to determine what customer thinks about a brand or a product and it is specifically known as brand name testing. The demand of a product can be understood by demand estimation. After the demand of the product is taken care of, the quality should be checked from time to time. Appointing mystery shoppers who is usually an employee of the market research firm does this. He buys goods through a salesperson and notes down the whole experience. This procedure can be used to do research about rival companies’ products.

Before practical application of a concept, concept testing should be done which tells whether the targeted audience will like the idea or not. Test marketing is done by introducing a product in small numbers in the market and observing the sales, after which the product is launched on a large-scale. After the initial phase, when the company thinks of increasing the price of the product, price elasticity testing should be carried out which shows customer reaction to price fluctuations. Distribution channel audits are conducted to understand the attitudes of retailers and distributors towards specific products and brands.

The more tech savvy form of marketing research is Internet strategic intelligence. The likes and dislikes of the customers can be directly known with the help of chats, blogs and forums. Online panels are a group of experts who accept the marketing research done online.

All the researches that are carried out can be classified as primary research, which gathers original research, and secondary research, which is based on a primary research and information published by other resources. Secondary research costs less as research is done on already researched data, but the result isn’t efficient.

The research designs used by marketing research are either based on questioning or are based on observations. Quantitative marketing research and qualitative marketing research are based on questioning. Quantitative marketing research is done to derive conclusions like questionnaires forms and survey. The number of respondents involved is high. Qualitative marketing research is done to understand something like in-depth interviews and projective techniques.

Marketing research based on observations is called experimental technique and ethnographic studies. Test markets and purchase laboratories are examples of experimental techniques. The quantity measured is determined by understanding the factors that are responsible for the success of a product and then one or some of the factors are changed and the result is observed. In ethnographic studies observations are done longitudinally or done at several instances of time or cross-sectional, or done at only a particular time.

Research on marketing is similar to exit polling in politics. The market is studied from different angles, at different time, and under different circumstances.
Hope to see you build a winning brand.

Advertising is crucial if you have something to sell. You are many different advertising methods, varying in price and effectiveness. Blenders are something that most people will need and use at some time or another. A lot of people like to upgrade their blender when a new one comes on the market, so you can take advantage of that fact also. Before you begin advertising, you should decide on the following factors.

1.) Target Audience

Who are you trying to reach through your ads? It is important to research your potential customers because this will give you better ideas about how to reach them.

2.) The Advertising Medium

You can advertise either online or offline. Advertising online is quite easy. You should create a good website which offers plenty of information on the product you want to sell. You can either set up your own website or pay somebody to do it for you.

It is very important to drive traffic to your website, else nobody will find it. You can advertise in your signature line on forums or write articles, focusing on the product you want to sell, including its features and uses. Make sure your articles do not sound like “hard sell” because this will put potential customers off.

You can broadcast if you prefer offline options but this can work out costly. If you are using radio or television, make sure your website address is repeated several times. Print medium can be very successful and you have the choice of brochures, catalogs and postcards. You can sell your blenders while promoting your website. Make sure your website address is prominently displayed.

In order to save money you can advertise locally. Classified ads, local cable networks and even bulletin boards at local businesses are great places to advertise your business. Perhaps you can create direct mail pieces to send to potential customers. If you do not have a mailing list, you can buy targeted lists from a variety of companies.

You might want to try banners, posters and flyers. Decide how to put your marketing message into words. If this is not your forte, you might want to hire a freelance writer to come up with a slogan and marketing message for you.

Remember that offline advertising is a long term investment. You might not get an initial response from this type of advertising but let the ad continue. The more often somebody sees your ad, the more likely they are to contact you when they need your type of business.

It is important to choose a good printing company. Your adverts are going to represent you so don’t go for the cheapest company you can find and accept substandard work because if your posters are mediocre, nobody is going to trust your product.

Starting up in business is tough so if you want to make it a success you have to posses the right attitude and leadership qualities; you need to be a confident and motivated entrepreneur.

To make a good entrepreneur there are certain qualities that you need to have such as the following:

• Be a good leader
• Self confident and organised
• Confident and a risk taker
• Good communicator and competitive
• Prepared to work long hours
• Provide a unique service or product

It is said that anyone can be an entrepreneur but I strongly believe that you won’t get very far without having the above qualities. You need to be a strong leader and determined to make it in the world of business if you are going to make it past the first two years, let alone build a successful business. The reason I say this is because within the first two years of a new business most new ventures fail mainly due to a lack of experience and lack of funding; don’t let your business just become another statistic; get everything right first time not second.

The life that is led by an entrepreneur consists of hard work, long hours and continued devotion to a business idea. So before you start up your business you need to make sure that you feel ready for the challenge and the ability to take on your venture.

If you feel that you have the skills and motivation to build up your own business the next thing that you need to gain is funding to start up your business.

There are many places that you can approach to gain the funding that you need to start up your business such as a bank loan, overdraft, credit cards, savings, friends and family as well as private investment. Private investment differs from traditional business finance such as bank loans for the fact that private investments are known as equity, which is when the money that is invested into your business doesn’t need to be paid back, instead a percentage of ownership of your business is handed over to the investor.

Private investors not only provide you with the money that you need to get your business off the ground but they also provide you with all of their expertise and industry knowledge; you are also allowed full assess to their list of contacts who could potentially help to get your business known, meaning you are equipped with everything you could possibly need to make your business into a success.

So if you are in the process of starting up your own business then I strongly urge you to consider bringing on board the help of a private investor to give your business the best possible chance of becoming a success as both parties (entrepreneur and investor) will benefit from this situation, leaving everyone involved happy!

So what are you waiting for? Get your search for the perfect private investor started today.

If you are a Private Investor join the Investors Club here at Angel Start-ups today, where you are bound to find the best new business venture to invest in before anyone else.

If you are a coach, consultant or other entrepreneur, sooner or later you will start thinking about creating information products. You may feel excited and a bit scared at the same time. The little critic in your head may whisper that you don’t have much to say, or that you don’t know how to do it, or you are not comfortable with technology, or internet marketing, or whatever the current magnet for your fear is. You are not alone here. After all, you may not have had a chance to study adult learning theory, instructional design or curriculum development, so you are not exactly sure how to go about designing your first e-course. And that’s OK because the good thing is that we all can learn and enlist help of specialists when needed.

To have an impact, learning needs to be personal, so go ahead and ask the question “What’s in it for me?” Becoming clear on your personal motivation for creating an information product is a good place to start because your motivation will influence many aspects of your project. So, why do people create information products? Here are some common reasons and questions to consider as you plan your project:

Reason 1: Creating passive income streams.
Once you’ve created a product, and it sells, you receive a continuous stream of revenue from it without putting extra time into the product itself. When you coach, for example, you sell your time, and you better be there for your coaching session. An information product, on the other hand, can sell even when you are taking a vacation on a remote island.
Questions to ponder:
What do you need to learn about marketing and sales to ensure that your information product sells?
How are you going to research your market to determine its needs and the demand for your product?

Reason 2: Building credibility.
It’s no secret that there is already a lot of information out there. People often feel information overload. So, how does it help you? Aren’t you just creating more information? Not if your information product solves a problem for people in a systemic, easy-to follow way. People don’t have time for research, and the job of an expert - you - is to wash the information sand for a few golden nuggets. You then make a jewelry piece out of the gold that you client can actually use. The credibility comes from being able to repackage information into valuable solutions for your clients.
Questions to ponder:
How do you want others to see you?
What are your own development points to bridge the gap between now and where you want to be?
What should you be learning now?
Who are established experts in your field?
How can teaming up with others enhance your own authority?

Reason 3: Establishing affiliate programs and other joint ventures.
Information products offer a way to harness the power of your internet connections and relationships. They are tangible, which means that they can be sold, gifted, won as a prize in a variety of contexts by different internet entities. In a way, you can speak from multiple podiums at the same time and extend the reach of your message through your information products.
Questions to ponder:
What partnerships would you like to develop?
What criteria will you use to filter potential business relationships?
What products and services are complimentary to yours and can strengthen your position in your niche market but don’t compete with your offerings?

Reason 4: Putting a part of your business on auto-pilot.
Isn’t it nice to be able to step away from your business and be assured that it is still running smoothly? When you put systems in place to build your list, have a consistent method of communicating with your prospects, market and sell your products, you can have more time to spend with your family and friends, pursue hobbies and whatever else your heart desires.
Questions to ponder:
What systems can you implement in your business to make everything run consistently and automatically?
What can you outsource so that you could work from your strengths?

Reason 5: Offering lower-priced alternatives to individual consulting or coaching.
It’s beneficial to have several information products that range from low-priced to high-priced because they give your prospects more options. People can choose to sample your work with a no-cost or low-cost product, and if they feel confident in your services, they may eventually upgrade to higher-priced options.
Questions to ponder:
What no-cost or low-cost options can you offer to your clients and prospects?
What are your high-priced offerings?

Reason 6: Expanding your list of clients.
People vary in their learning styles and preferences for learning solutions. A client with a dominant linguistic intelligence may enjoy an e-book, while somebody with a strong musical intelligence will prefer a set of CDs or mp3 downloads. Once again, the more options you have, the more people you will be able to attract and accommodate.
Questions to ponder:
Who is your ideal client?
What do they want from your services and products?
How can you make your offering more attractive to your ideal client niche?

Reason 7: Laying the foundation for the future growth of your expert services.
The ideas you develop for one information product can be reused, improved, and repackaged for other information products. It is a process of continuous improvement and growth for you and your clients who are able to stay with you and continue to benefit from your growing expertise.
Questions to ponder:
How can you repackage what you have already created?
How can you use your clients’ feedback to improve and diversify your products?

Reason 8: Growing professionally and building your own expertise.
Creating information products is also an opportunity for you to grow professionally as a coach or consultant. You need to do your research, keep current with your niche trends, develop clarity and precision in your own thinking and communicating, all of which will keep you focused and engaged.
Questions to ponder:
What do you want to learn next?
What systems and tools do you have in place to stay current on important information?
What do you do to grow professionally?
How can you apply what you are learning to your work on information products?

Reason 9: Expressing yourself creatively.
In order to design quality information product that engage your clients and have the potential of transforming their lives, you need to let your own creativity flourish. You want to present the same idea in different ways and engage multiple intelligences in order to accommodate the needs of various learners. You want to make it fun and memorable so that people keep referring back to your product and tell others about it. Get inspired!
What can you do to feed your creativity?
How can you capture your creative ideas without judging them?
Who would you like to invite for a creative brainstorming?

Reason 10: Sharing your knowledge and skills for impact.
You have an important message to communicate, a unique way to help people, a valuable perspective or experience to share with others. Your information products can reach lots of people all over the world, magnifying your impact.
Questions to ponder:
What is your key message and how is it reflected in the products you are creating?
Who is your target audience?
What are the best ways to reach your audience?

I’m often asked: what is the best way to finance a new business venture. This question is usually followed by “So, do you ever invest in new business ventures?”

The answers, respectively, are: 1. there is no “best” way to fund a new business; and 2. I do invest in new business ventures, but darn it I can’t today because I left my checkbook in my other suit.

The truth is there are a variety of ways to finance a new business and which way is best for you depends totally on your product, your market, your financial requirements, your burn rate, and most importantly, your personal and financial situation.

So with that in mind, here are a few of the most common ways to finance a new business without hitting old Tim up for a loan. Keep in mind that all methods have pros and cons and some (or most) may not work for your specific situation. No matter what financing method you choose thoroughly investigate the ups and downs and don’t jump in with both feet until you’re sure you’ll land on solid ground.

Savings and Investments

The first source you should consider tapping is your own savings and investments. I’m a huge fan of self-financing when it comes to business because it doesn’t make you responsible to others should the business fail. The bad thing is that it if things do go under, it will be your money that goes down with the ship. If you’re not willing to risk your own capital you certainly shouldn’t be willing to risk anyone else’s.

Friends and Family

After tapping their own savings and investments, many entrepreneurs turn to friends and family for help. This works well for some, but here’s the creed I live by: NEVER borrow money from anyone you have to eat Thanksgiving dinner with. Nothing causes tension in a family like lending money that is never paid back. And notice I say “lending money” rather than investing money. Venture capitalists invest money. Your relatives lend you money. They will expect it back someday even if they say they won’t. Remember, when a loved one invests in your business they are emotionally investing in you. It would be tough to tell mom and dad that their favorite son lost their life savings because his business went down the drain.

Credit Cards

I financed my first business on credit cards, which was an incredibly stupid thing to do given the fact that my business could have failed and left me with thousands of dollars in credit card debt that would have taken until the year 2099 to pay off. It worked out in the end for me, but if you decide to finance your business on plastic keep in mind that you will be paying extremely high interest rates on the money you’ve borrowed and unless you hit it big you will be paying for that money for many years to come.

Mortgage The Farm

Bank loans are next to impossible to get if you don’t have collateral and a track record of business success, which is why many entrepreneurs use the equity in their homes to finance their business after being turned down for a bank loan. While this makes more sense than building a business on a deck of credit cards, the financial risks are no less abundant. You must pay this money back whether your business succeeds or not, but it is a good source of low interest money to get you started and the interest may be tax deductible (check with your accountant to make sure).

Angel Investors

An angel investor is typically a wealthy individual who invests in start up ventures for a share of the ownership. Angel investors are usually the first formal investors in a business and provide the seed money to get the business up and running. Some angel investors will write you a check and leave you alone to run your business while others consider their investment a license to “help you” manage and make decisions. If you do accept angel money make sure the terms are clearly defined on both sides. Angel money always comes with strings. Make sure you know whether those strings come in the form of a bow or a noose before you accept an angel’s check.

Venture Capitalists

Venture capitalists are to angel investors as pit bulls are to Chihuahuas. That’s not to say all VC are big, bad dogs, but they do have powerful jaws that can chew up your business and spit it out if things don’t go their way. VC money doesn’t come with strings, it comes with chains and locks and lots of legal documents. VC always have the upper hand in any deal they invest in. That’s just how it works and that’s the price you pay to get access to VC money.

If your business gets to the level that VC money becomes a viable option, don’t jump at the first bone a VC dangles before your eyes. If one VC likes your idea, others will, too. Present to multiple VC and carefully consider each offer before you accept the check.

Just remember, no matter how you finance your business, use the money wisely. Don’t buy $1,500 plasma monitors and $1,000 Hermann Miller chairs.

Have a very clear plan of how the money will be used and how it will be paid back.

And remember this, the more you can shoestring the business, but more of the business you will own in the end.

Grants come in a wide array of sizes, for a broad array of purposes, from a myriad of sources. While most grant information rests at the Federal level, there are plenty of other sources of funding for a business startup out there. This article will focus on getting grants from your local community.

First, there are sound reasons for your local chamber of commerce and better business bureau to offer grants for businesses to start up - businesses employ people, and boosting the local job market is one of the important things your city government does. Even if your business just employs two part time shipping clerks, it still makes sense for your local business development center to host a grant program to help new businesses start out.

Likely candidates names for your local municipality’s business development center will be Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Council, or Small Business Development Corporation. In addition to grant proposals, most of them have extensive libraries on things like local tax regulations, federal and interstate and state regulations you need to concern yourself with, local labor laws, and how to get your jobs listed in the want ads and local unemployment center. There are also organizations run by retired businesspeople that offer classes in starting a business, including step by step instruction on how to set up a business plan, how to handle your first two years taxes (where the capital put into the business can offset the revenue generated) and more. You can find out more about what resources your local area has for instructing small businesses and incubating them by going to the public library, or checking out your city’s web site.

To get a local grant, you’re going to have to demonstrate a mixture of enthusiasm and hardheaded business sense. Passion counts, but so does a demonstrated ability to plan, as does focusing attention on how your business needs will tie to local suppliers and supply chains, and will provide jobs for local people. Many municipalities have something analogous to the Community Development Block Grant Loan Program. How this works is that the municipality or county applies for a grant (called a block grant) from the Federal Government to do local spurring of business development, and then uses that funding as seed capital to make low interest or short term loans to local businesses to help them start out, provided they hire low income people from the area.

Many larger cities have programs like the one in Seattle, where for businesses that will employ more than 100 people, and will need new construction, can get grants for new construction if the buildings are Green, or LEED certified, minimizing construction waste and power usage.

Many grants are tied to non-profit organizations. You don’t have to be a non-profit organization to benefit from such a grant; you can work with a local NPO to get the grant, under an agreement where they’ll use your firm for goods and services - this represents a triple win for the underwriting grant agency. It helps a non profit organization work on a project that ameliorates a problem they’ve been assigned money to fix, it helps you, by giving your company contracts for work to be done, and it helps the community by allowing you to hire more people to get the job done. The local restrictions on this sort of partnership are varied and numerous, and it’s worth it to talk to someone at the local city hall to see what can and cannot be done without conflict of interest or collusion complications.

The last place to dig for grants (or the first one in some situations) is a local trade organization. If you’re in a field with a vital services niche, and it’s going unmet, it’s not unreasonable to get grants from a business organization to open the type of business they support; it helps bring their profession into a higher profile, or represents moving into an untapped market to them.

All of these should help you find local grants that help you achieve your goals.
This is best because you know your company more and know the services that it can provide, more than anyone else in the industry. You are the one that has the right information about your company. This ‘Do-It-Yourself’ marketing is best since it is less costly and you will give your guests the information that they need about your business.

The following are 7 Do-It-Yourself Sales and Marketing Tips as a caterer you can adopt:

1) Word-of-mouth.

You can simply go around and tell people about your business. You can start with your friends and relatives. Word-of-mouth is an inexpensive way to market your business and yourself. It has the advantage that come face to face with the person you are talking to and you can explain yourself until the person understands. You will also be able to answer any questions that might be aroused.

2) Event Marketing

You can market your business on a particular event that you can raise. For example you can have a dancing competition and the winner will get some food hampers. By doing so, you are attracting people to the event and then you have the advantage of advertising your business to them.

3) Trade Shows

You can also advertise your business at trade shows or food shows. You go there with your products and plenty of taster’s. This will give you the opportunity to inform the people the type of business you offer & the services you can provide. You can also issue out business cards in case they would like to contact you for more details. Free give-away’s are always a good idea.

4) Technological Advances

Using the best technology that is efficient and effective is also another way to market yourself. If guests just see you serving on the latest designs of plates or using amazing technological advance food warmers they will obviously regard you as the best.

5) Clothing

It is also best to wear uniforms or t-shirts that has got your business name and logo. In this way everyone you will meet on the street will have the advantage of knowing of your company and help brand your company name in their brain.

6) Sponsoring Certain Functions

Free Enterprise: Either you are into it yourself or you are working for someone who is. My name is David Allred and I am a successful entrepreneur. I am involved in a legitimate home based business through which I have been able to enjoy total freedom, both personally and financially. I am a business coach and a personal mentor for those seeking to become successful.

Running a successful business can be very difficult without the right tools. I have made a list of the ten most important steps that have helped me along the way.

1. Your Why is the fuel behind your drive. This is what will drive you to success and must be strong. This is the Reason you want success. Why do you want to be rich? Why do you want success? Get clear on that and visualize the outcome every day.

2. Your Belief system is vital to achieving any level of success. Do you believe in yourself and your abilities? Do you believe in the products that you offer and also your own business? Your beliefs must be tied directly to your “Why” to the point that you have the Will-power to do whatever it takes to obtain your goals.

3. Having a Solid Business Model or a good business plan as the vehicle as well as short term, mid term and long term Goals that are obtainable but that will also stretch you.

4. You must create a Board of Directors for yourself. It refers to this in Napoleon Hills “Think and Grow Rich.” Your board of directors can be people in your immediate circle of friends or individuals that don’t even exist. These are people who know more than you do in different areas of business or personal success. People who you can confide in and ask advice from. This is called Masterminding. Henry Ford, the founder of the great Ford Automobile Company, didn’t know everything there is to know about the industry. But you see, he didn’t have to. He surrounded himself with those who did.

If you want to become successful then you must surround yourself with successful people. Avoid negative people and focus on those who are positive in thinking.

5. Be in the Service of others. You must also realize, when you help others to get what they want….you will get what you want. This doesn’t mean that you will have to bow down and give your entire life away to serving others at no charge. Most businesses are based on a service.

6. Personal Development. Always be learning and improving. Always be a student in the school of life and business. Self improvement and knowledge are what creates energy in your countenance. Have you ever been into the home of someone you considered as very successful? Did they have a library or large collection of books or information? Most likely they did.

7. Persistence is the key to getting the results you are looking for. Have you ever heard of the term, “Burn your boats,” or “Don’t leave yourself a back door?” Basically, don’t have the option of failure in your mind. If you give yourself a way out, then you are sure to take it. If your “Why” is strong then you will persist until you succeed.

8. Do the thing. Set aside a specified amount of time for Money Making Activities every day. This is how the money is made. Establish a DMO, daily method of operation, that includes income producing activities that will not be interrupted.

9. In every business you must have a strong Marketing/advertising campaign. Get your name out there.

10. If you plan to win big and be a successful entrepreneur, you must also Play Big. If you play small, you will win small. I see so many small businesses who try to rent an older building, start out small and then go out of business. If you are looking for all out massive results, play big and play to win.

I have built my legitimate home based business upon these principles and know they will be helpful for anyone seeking to obtain their ultimate lifestyle of prosperity and abundance. If you are looking for a vehicle, I can teach you a business that can and will transform you life.

Learn more about a successful home based business like this one, to obtain an ultimate lifestyle of prosperity and abundance. If you are looking for a vehicle, Business Know How can teach you a business that can and will transform you life.

Have you ever wondered why some businesses prosper while others fail? There are actually more secrets in every business success not everyone knows about. It’s not enough that you have the financial aspects in line or you have enough manpower to start up your business, those are just the basic stepping stones.

Every successful business owner always incorporates the “focus” in his mind. Starting your business with the end in mind helps you conquer every obstacle you encounter. Say for example your goal is to earn one million dollars income in less than five years but your business is currently facing the economic crisis of the country. A focused business owner sees the economic crisis as a challenge and not as a problem. Instead of getting his goal off track, he thinks about possibilities and solutions to turn the crisis into his advantage.

How Does Mission And Vision Help In Achieving Success

Every company has a Mission Statement and a Vision Statement. These are inspiring words chosen by the company’s leaders to express the direction of the whole organization. Mission and Vision Statements are not simply there for design purposes - their goal is to motivate and inspire the team and the organization members to create, build, and realize a common goal, that is to achieve business success.

Without Mission and Vision, there’ll be no clear and concise direction for the organization. They do not have the purpose and the objective - they’re simply earning money without thinking of others. The end result would be lack of loyalty, confidence, trust, respect, goal setting, and cooperation from the team.

Mission Statements demonstrate every company’s goal in providing the best services and products to their clients. This can be achieved by the whole organization’s cooperation as a team in delivering what is expected from them. Vision Statements take into account the company’s role in the society and how they can make a difference in everyone’s lives including the company’s employees as well as their clients.

Team Building: Choosing And Training The Ones Who Are Truly Qualified

What is the most important part of every company, aside from mere manpower and capital investment? Well, the answer is simple, an effective team that delivers only the best. When hiring employees, the company should not simply base their decision on the curriculum vitae and educational background submitted by applicants, these are just icings on the cake. The most important factor when hiring is to look deeper into the qualities of each applicant.

You should ask yourself questions such as “what can they offer the company,” “are they eager to learn and improve their skills,” “do they possess strong motivation to work hard,” and “are they trustworthy?” When you have these questions in mind when hiring employees, rest assured you’ll be choosing only the best.

Always remember that an applicant with extremely good grades in school may not possess the right skills and motivation expected from them. Most of the time, the average Joes are often the ones who are hard workers and eager learners which means they’ll do everything to deliver the best service they can. You’ll be surprised!

Effective Team Management

Effective team management is not an automated system - you should establish the culture of teamwork inside the organization in order to achieve this. The first thing you have to do is to make your team understand and support a common vision. This will help them realize what their roles are in the team and in return, they will help others who are not so focused on the common goal.

You should avoid setting up competition inside the workplace as this may just disrupt team building and cooperation. Everyone should be working together and not trying to outdo one another. This means that you should set each and everyone’s responsibilities based on the skills they possess.

An effective team possesses a strong foundation of trust and respect for one another. You can build trust and respect within the organization by giving trust and respect. You should not be so uptight, just act as a coach and not as an intimidating boss.

In addition, you should also encourage brainstorming during meetings in order for your employees to feel being “a real part of the team.” Brainstorming also inspires your team to be more efficient because they will come up with creative solutions to achieve the common goal faster.

I was in a discussion with some professors at College Leadership Conference about the “Green Movement”. I made the comment that many colleges and businesses are shifting to green initiatives because it is the “in” thing recently. While I visit many college campuses I see litter and little to no recycling and I see false environmental Jargon with no teeth. These professors stared at me for a moment, then expressed that many of them do not know what to do to justify the environmental movement on campus.

I agree we often (this includes businesses with New Business theories) jump into this frenzy of doing the “NEW THING” and have no idea how to implement it or even if it is right for the organizational culture and climate. I remember when the “Fish Philosophy” emerged. Many companies I was facilitating and consulting on team goals and team skills wanted their training to be “Fish Philosophy”. I read the books and studied about “Fish Philosophy” created customized trainings based on the philosophy. Many of the groups after I consulted really had no concept of what it really meant. They heard that this was the “IT” thing and thought “WE have to do this because Betty in accounting said it is great!” These ideas come and pass rapidly and HR as well as Team managers have very little to no thought about the long term effects.

This “flavor of the month” creates a culture of false buy-in. Employees know that if they attend the parties sit in the consultant training meeting - while creating and illusion of following the new company track - things will go back to the way they have always been. A crying wolf culture the team soon becomes numb to new ideas and concepts within the culture. Take care when jumping into the new trends - A new one I see that makes me nervous is the Generation Y wave of fear and trainings going on - I understand and see the irony - I lead gen-y trainings myself and I feel that it is not just a Gen-Y shift we are going through it is a full spectrum of all generations at the workplace. If you are going to follow the “IT” theory think about how it can be implemented into the work and college or university culture. These juggernauts often shift slowly - so choose wisely where to spend time and organizational change.

Back to environmentalism WHAT are you and your culture doing? It is easy to create false claims the challenge to is implement plans and organizational change.
